Last night was surreal, visceral and the energy was extremely palpable!!! I went with Shangela to record and capture her performance for Lady Gaga at Micky's last night. Shangela, with only two hours prior to prepare for the show had to get a costume made, pick up special make up to imitate the “pissed-off teenager that made out with a clown” look below, learn the lyrics for the song (which was just released that day) and be in WEHO on stage at 10:30 pm. CRAY, CRAY!
Rushing around the city we got the items from Joann's and Rite Aid as quickly as possible came back home to pack and then to a friends to help make the costume. Once the costume was ready Shangela got her face beat by the Infamous Lady K.
We then bolted to the venue arriving just in the nick of time. Shangela made a quick costume change, make up touch up, then dashed down the stairs, while applying press-on-nails. It was very Velma Kelly at the Onyx without the murder part.
The place was packed and as Shangela and Courtney made their way to the stage the curtains opened, Lady Gaga's new single Applause began and the crowd went ape-sh*t! (See the Video Below) Suddenly a fashion forward chick jumped up onto the stage with a large and bright LED light panel and Camera rig to capture a very intimate close up of the on stage performance.
Shangela got the lip-sync and costume down and hit her signature death drop move to accentuate the very last word. About a minute into the song I realized that the fashion forward chick, whom still remains on stage filming...turned out to be LADY (EFFIN) GAGA! Whom now sports brown hair. The fact that it got interactive with GAGA was even more thrilling.
She was in the middle of the stage recording all kinds of angles, close up's and views of the crowd from the stage for her new lyric video for Applause. She is definitely a Robert Rodriguez in the making! (BTW check out GAGA in the new film MACHETE KILLS, in theaters October 11) Also, when it was over GAGA was so kind to come KIKI with the kids backstage. When she walked in the room she immediately found a kinship with a small table top, light-up mirror that when she sat down in front of it illuminated her face even more than it already was. She then proceeded to pose for several photos that I was lucky enough to snap.
The entire night was really surreal! Ending with a late night run to Taco Bell and falling asleep at the computer while uploading photos and video of the event to my computer. This morning I wiped the drool from my keyboard and listened to Gaga's interview with Ryan Seacreast on KISS and it made me even more inspired to work harder. Thank you Shangela and Lady Gaga for the adventurous night!
